7 things you didn’t know about Sandy Mokwena

Cape Town – The popular Scandal! actor has sadly passed on – here are a few interesting things you may not have known about him.

The South African entertainment industry suffered a great loss on Thursday when news broke that veteran actor Sandy Mokwena died at the age of 68.

The popular actor has graced our TV screens since the early 80’s and has made a valuable impact on the local television industry.

Here are 7 things you probably didn’t know about the late actor:

1. He did a lot of voice work

Although he had an extensive career in theatre and on television, Sandy also worked on a number of radio dramas on SABC stations.

2. He traveled the world

From 1972-1984 Sandy was part of the cast of the hit musical Ipi Tombi. He played the role of Cappie and traveled the world with the rest of the cast.

3. He has appeared on Scandal! since 2005

Sandy’s role as Eddie Khumalo has had an impact on many South Africans’ lives the past 12 years.

4. He was also part of the cast of Yizo Yizo, Generations and Soul city

He played Principal Ken Mokoena on Yizo Yizo.

5. He starred in several movies

Sandy acted in a number of movies through the 90’s and 2000’s including The Principal, Dead End and Winnie Mandela.

6. His favourite co-star of all time was Stephina Zwane, who played his teenage daughter Lolo on Scandal!

7. He drew inspiration from his character, Bra Eddie

In an interview with IOL, Sandy said he drew inspiration from his character. “He appears to be tough, but he has a heart too,” he said.
